Equifax breach and Stolen Identities: What should I do now?
The Equifax breach in 2017 was different than most prior breaches of credit card numbers. In this breach, the social security numbers, names, addresses and other related personal information was acquired by criminal hackers. Once this data gets out, it means that most people are at greater likelihood of loans and accounts being fraudulently opened in their name. You should check the Equifax website to see if your information was exposed in this breach. If it was, you will want to sign up for credit monitoring to protect your credit. Even if you were not a part of this breach, we recommend everyone with internet access consider using credit monitoring services from one of the main three credit report agencies (Transunion, Experian, or Equifax) or similar identity protection services, to help protect yourself from identity and account fraud.
File a police report and call the credit union immediately (970) 330-9728.
After you have contacted all of your financial institutions to put a hold on your accounts, be sure to call the following credit bureaus and put a “fraud alert” on your file along with a victim’s statement asking that creditors call you before opening any new accounts or changing your existing accounts.

It is a good idea to check your credit report at least once a year: call toll free 1-877-322-8228 or visit www.annualcreditreport.com once a year and receive a free credit report.
Email “Phishing” Scam
Phishing emails have been circulating informing members of an “ALERT message” that can be viewed by logging into HomeLink, our online banking site. The email asks members to click on the link to log in. The site that the link takes you to is a fake site made to fool you into thinking it is legitimate. We did NOT send this message.
DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK! Just delete the email. If you responded to the email by sharing personal financial information, please contact us immediately. We will NEVER ask you to click on an email link to share sensitive financial information. You can still safely log into HomeLink from our website homepage in the top, left corner.

Do not respond to any type of automated text, phone or email message in regards to your WCCU account(s). These messages are fraudulent and did not come from WCCU. We will NEVER contact you asking for confidential or account information.
